Service & Mission

Living the Gospel Through Service

Inspired by the charism of Blessed Marie Thérèse Haze, the Daughters of the Cross dedicate themselves to serving Christ by responding to the needs of those around them. Rooted in prayer and strengthened by the Eucharist, our mission extends beyond the walls of our convents into schools, parishes, hospitals, prisons, villages, and communities throughout Pakistan.

Guided by the Gospel, we strive to bring hope, dignity, compassion, and God’s love to every person we encounter, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or social background.

Education

Education has always been at the heart of our mission. Since opening our first school in Karachi in 1862 with only ten pupils, the Daughters of the Cross have remained committed to providing quality education that nurtures intellectual growth, moral values, and faith.

Today, our educational ministries continue across Pakistan through schools, colleges, and formation programs that empower children and young people to become responsible members of society.

Pastoral Ministry

We actively participate in the pastoral life of the Church by serving in parishes and accompanying people on their journey of faith.

Our ministries include:

  • Visiting the sick and elderly in homes and hospitals
  • Teaching religious education
  • Preparing children and adults for the Sacraments
  • Serving in Parish Councils
  • Organizing retreats and spiritual formation programs
  • Supporting parish communities through catechesis and outreach

Through these ministries, we seek to strengthen faith and build vibrant Christian communities.

Care for the Poor and Vulnerable

Following Christ’s example of compassion, we reach out to those who are most in need.

Our mission includes:

  • Food distribution for struggling families
  • Clothing assistance
  • Medical support
  • Financial assistance
  • Educational support
  • Community outreach during emergencies and natural disasters

Whether responding to floods, economic hardship, or individual family needs, we strive to be instruments of God’s mercy and hope.

Prison Ministry

The Daughters of the Cross are called to serve those who are often forgotten.

Through regular visits to correctional facilities, the Sisters accompany prisoners with prayer, spiritual guidance, counselling, and practical assistance. They organize Bible services, provide food and clothing where needed, and encourage hope and reconciliation.

This ministry reflects our belief that every person possesses God-given dignity and deserves compassion, encouragement, and the opportunity for a new beginning.

Outreach and Humanitarian Response

The needs of society continue to evolve, and so does our mission.

Together with the local Church, benefactors, and volunteers, we respond to humanitarian crises by supporting families affected by floods, poverty, illness, displacement, and other emergencies.

Our outreach ministries seek not only to meet immediate needs but also to restore hope, strengthen communities, and affirm the dignity of every person.

Living Our Mission Every Day

For more than 160 years, the Daughters of the Cross in Pakistan have remained faithful to their mission of prayer, education, pastoral care, and compassionate service.

Inspired by Christ and guided by the spirit of the Cross, we continue to walk alongside those who are poor, vulnerable, and searching for hope witnessing God’s love through lives of humble service.
